The Attkisson Law Firm

Medina Co, OH (November 28, 2024) – A tragic multi-car accident occurred early Thursday morning in Medina County, resulting in serious injuries to one driver and the loss of another life. The incident, reported by the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), happened around 12:16 a.m. on Interstate 71, near milepost 206 in Westfield Township.

According to the OSHP, a white Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by 25-year-old Eliyjsha Richardson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was traveling northbound on I-71 when it collided with the rear of a white Honda Civic. The collision caused the Hyundai to veer off the left side of the roadway, crossing into the southbound lanes, where it struck a semi-tractor trailer before crashing head-on into a white Dodge cargo van.

Tragically, Eliyjsha Richardson, the driver of the Hyundai, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The driver of the Dodge cargo van, whose identity has not been released, was transported by ambulance to Cleveland Clinic in Lodi with serious injuries. Both the semi-truck driver and the Honda Civic driver were unharmed.

Firefighters worked diligently to extricate the injured driver from the wreckage, while emergency personnel cleared the accident site and controlled traffic flow on I-71, which was temporarily diverted during the investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident.

Our condolences go out to all those affected by this tragic accident. We wish for a swift and full recovery for the injured party.
